Optometrist, 3 others fall in anti-drug stings

FOUR people, including an optometrist, were arrested while some P11,800 worth of suspected “shabu” was seized in separate anti-drug operations in Zamboanga City, an official said Friday, May 24.

Police Colonel Thomas Joseph Martir, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director, identified the arrested suspects as the following: Jose Jay Garcia, 57, an optometrist; Ron Mark Alagad, 31; Christopher Ibañez, 49; and Al Mark Fulgosa, 32.

Martir said Garcia, Alagad and Ibañez were arrested by personnel of the Police Station 4 in a drug bust around 10 p.m. Thursday along Nuñez Street in Zone 3 village.

The police director said they yielded some P1,800 worth of suspected shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) packed in two heat-sealed plastic sachets, three sachets of dried marijuana leaves and P500 marked money.

He said Fulgosa, an employee of a local coconut oil mill, was caught in possession of P10,000 worth of suspected shabu packed in four plastic sachets when arrested in a drug bust by Police Station 7 personnel at 3:10 a.m. Friday at Purok 4B in Sta. Catalina village.

Martir said also confiscated from Fulgosa was P200 marked money.

He said charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are being readied to be filed against the suspects, who are detained. (SunStar Philippines)
