Child protection council receives high rating

THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced that the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) has attained the highest level of functionality for the year 2018.

Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, who chairs the LCPC, said the DILG informed her through a letter that the LCPC has attained the ideal level of functionality, the highest level of functionality, with an equivalent rating of 103 percent.

She said the rating earned by the LCPC in 2018 is one percent higher than the 102 percent rating it got in 2017.

The chief executive said the rating was a result of the evaluation and assessment conducted by the Regional Inter-Agency Monitoring Task Force (RIMTF) team on April 2, this year.

Salazar said the local government units (LGUs) are encouraged to organize their respective LCPCs as mandated under the law based on DILG Memorandum 2002-121.

She said the LCPC shall be responsible in planning and spearheading programs for children in the locality with the end in view of making the locality child-friendly.

The mayor said the need to make the LCPC functional is crucial to sustain national efforts in the localization of the National Strategic Framework for Plan Development for Children. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
