A TOP official of National Food Authority (NFA) assured the public that it has sufficient stock of rice for the entire Zamboanga Peninsula area.

NFA Assistant Regional Director Cristituto Mangaoang said Friday that they have set aside a buffer stock of close to 500,000 bags of rice to offset any shortage of rice due to the effect of the El Niño phenomenon.

Mangaoang said the buffer stock is sufficient for one month consumption until the next shipment of rice will arrive in the country.

Of the close to 500,000 bags of buffer stocks of rice, 146,000 bags of 50 kilos each were set aside for Zamboanga del Norte, 140,000 for Zamboanga City, 123,000 for Zamboanga del Sur, and 88,000 for Zamboanga Sibugay.

Mangaoang said the NFA regional office is set to receive a shipment of 530,000 bags of 50 kilos each of imported rice from Vietnam and Thailand.

Mangoang said that recently, a shipment of 353,000 bags of rice have arrived in Zamboanga City NFA warehouse. (Bong Garcia)
