Y-Speak: Take things slowly

PEOPLE nowadays are always in haste as if they are in a race. It is good to be hasty but then there are also disadvantages to it. In doing this, we are going to miss a lot of things in our lives.

I have seen people who are always in a hurry to go home and missed the fun of hanging out with their friends. I also witnessed people who want to grow up faster and be matured when in fact they are still young and full of energy. There are also girls and boys who are still too young to create their own family. I have seen people like these and I pity them.

There are a lot of situations in our lives that we want to speed things up. It is like watching movies on our gadgets. We want to fast-forward everything because it is a hassle to watch the entire movie. But, by fast-forwarding everything, we will miss a lot of scenes that give fun, excitement, sadness, horror, and thrill to us. We will miss a lot of important things that may reflect on our lives and give moral or lesson to us.

Stop and take everything in our lives slowly. We are still young and there are lots of things we need to enjoy. We should not be too hard to ourselves and take everything seriously. We need to loosen up. Let everything in our lives flow accordingly. We should let ourselves enjoy the course of our lives, let “Life” teaches us through our experiences.

A professor once told me the famous aphorism called “carpe diem” which means “to seize the day”. We need to make the most of our lives, especially our present time and not to worry about our future. And by doing this, we will not miss half our lives. Later then, we will not feel sorry for not making the most of our lives and will surely agree that we live our lives to the fullest. (Michelle S.
