A DAVAO City councilor is hoping for the creation of a city government-owned school in the next city council.
Re-elected councilor and education committee chair Pilar Braga said she will be filing a resolution for the creation of City College of Davao.
Braga said other cities such as Manila, Makati, and Pasay, have already their own public and locally funded city-flagship schools.
“Hinaut unta na maka-afford na ang Davao City nga mu-put up og usa ka city college for our people na libre (We hope the city government of Davao could finally afford to put up a city college for our people that is free),” she said on Tuesday during the regular session at the Sangguniang Panlungsod, although she admitted it would still depend on the availability of the budget of the city.
She also said she has not yet talked to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on her proposal but she believed that the mayor will support it as it will benefit many Dabawenyos including those who are less fortunate to go to college.
Meanwhile, she reported during her privilege speech that there are 21 various projects of the city that are ready for turnover to different city public schools, including the construction of six-classroom, two-storey building at the Talomo Central Elementary School with an appropriated budget of P11,125,000.
Braga also added that there is no formal turnover of the projects.
Earlier this year, Braga filed a resolution after the Department of Education requested her for an additional 30 public schools in the city. (RGL)
