THE city’s solid waste management advocacy is expected to level up with the recent acquisition of some 96 garbage trucks that will be distributed to the different villages.
Of the total trucks purchased, 54 are compactor trucks while 42 are open dump trucks.
Eight of the compactor trucks will be for the use of the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), while the 46 others will be for deployment to the villages within the city proper. The open dump trucks will be for far flung villages.
OCENR’s Public Service Officer Rodrigo Pagotaisidro on Monday said the dump trucks is set for distribution on July 1 during which the Contest for the Cleanest and Greenest Village will also be launched.
Pagotaisidro said a regular monitoring team will be created through an executive order to monitor compliance of the villages per provisions of the City Ordinances, Resolutions, Executive Orders and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) memorandum circulars.
He said these laws and orders include the mandatory segregating of waste, segregated collection and transportation of solid waste, establishment of Materials Recovery Facilities by purok, zone or housing sites; information dissemination to the village residents; organization of the Village Ecological Solid Waste Management Committee; deputation of enforcers; imposition of garbage fees and proper maintenance of the garbage trucks.
