DOES this phrase, “Wow cool post, thanks for sharing” look familiar? It’s a new trend that is flooding most of the comment threads of some popular Facebook (FB) pages.
If you are on FB, then you may be conscious of the social networking service’s “Top Fan Badge.” This badge is awarded to users who actively interact (like, share, and comment) with certain pages or groups.
Badges are helpful to both fans and page admins as it only indicates an increase in sales and page engagement while fans can “possibly” receive a discount on the page/group’s products -- or just get to brag and display their top fan status.
The cause of this comment trend is basically from post spamming. It all started from accounts that use an auto-commenting program to regularly post content on several FB pages.
With this, users took this chance to another level by frequently commenting “Wow cool post, thanks for sharing” on every single post, which eventually became viral and annoying. Subsequently, everyone unknowingly became part of the spam spreading across the social media pages.
The exact comment phrase originally started from IGN page last May 9, 2019, when a group of trolls flooded their comment thread with “Wow cool post IGN, thanks for sharing“, as a sign of protest for posting non-gaming related content.
So my best tip, if you want to avoid these comments showing up in your space, is to check the Moderation Settings of the FB page. Click the Settings > General and then go to the Page Moderation where you may paste the exact phrase or words you want to block.
Doing this will mark those comments as spam and the page admin can approve or delete the content. This is also the best way to track down users who are doing these spam comments.
