DOGS of different breeds in superhero costumes walked the red carpet in Pomeranian Responsible Owners Society of Cagayan de Oro or CDO-Pros' fundraising event last Sunday, May 26, at the event center of SM City Cagayan de Oro.
Dubbed as Summer Fete 2019 Dog Fashion Show, the event, participated by around 40 dogs, was organized to raise money for Animal Rescue de Kagay-an, an animal shelter for dogs and cats in the city.
According to Van Exel Dulcero, the information officer of CDO-Pros, part of the funds from the event's registration will be donated to the ARK as food and medicine for the rescued dogs.
Last Sunday's event was composed of three activities, namely: Fun Match (with three categories: Aspin, Mixed Breed and Pure Breed), Eating Contest (Small, Medium and Large breeds), and the My Super Pawer Fashion Show, the highlight of the event.
The one year and two months old Siberian Husky named Yona, in her Maleficent costume, won as champion of the My Super Pawer Fashion Show, followed by Summer in her Wonder Woman costume as first runner-up and Athena, also in a Wonder Woman costume, won as second runner-up.
Rey Niño Amoguis, the owner of Yona, said he did not expect to win the fashion show contest.
"Syempre hindi ko inexpect kasi most of ang costume nagawa hiniram lang ang then kunti lang talaga ang nagastos namin," Amoguis said. (Of course, I wasn’t expecting it because most of her costumes were borrowed and we can spend so little)
"Happy. Tapos para kasing representative namin si Yona sa KRASH (Kagay-anon Responsible Association of Siberian Husky) na organization, which is nagtulong-tulong din yung organization na makapag-ambag in order for us to cope with an entry," he added. (Yona is like our representative for KRASH where the organization each contributed for us to cope with an entry)
According to Amoguis, he picked Maleficent for Yona's superhero costume as the infamous and longtime villainess of the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty where she became the heroine in its rewritten story line in the movie "Maleficent" starred by Angelina Jolie.
"Sabi nila na si Maleficent is the unsung hero so since yung theme ng program ngayon is about heroes and I like Maleficent man pud as a superhero," Amoguis said. (They said Maleficent is the unsung hero since the theme of the program is about heroes and I like Maleficent as a hero)
Meanwhile, Dulcero also shared that the CDO-Pros will also be organizing another activities set for Higalaay Festival in August, such as pet blessing, walkathon, and festival fashion show.
