Mayor's cataract removed

CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno recently underwent an eye operation to remove a cataract he reportedly developed after the campaign period.

Moreno, in a statement, said he had undergone a cataract removal in his right eye on Saturday, May 25, in a private hospital in the city. The entire operation lasted for about 30 minutes, and was undertaken by a team of local doctors, nurses and attendants.

"The entire operation was successful, thanks God, and my heartfelt gratitude goes to my doctors and those who helped in the operation. I am now recuperating under my doctors' management," he said.

Moreno said the rigors of the last campaign have taken a toll on his health, particularly the twice-a-day house-to-house handshaking. He said these activities unduly exposed his eyes to the sun, resulting to an accumulation of a cataract.

Moreno added he will still report to City Hall, but will maintain a light schedule and will avoid unnecessary exposures.

"As I prepare myself to start my third and last term as mayor of CDO, I am getting my eyes ready for a clear vision, for myself and for our beloved CDO. We are also getting the entire bureaucracy of the City prepared for another three years of serving the people of CDO the best way possible," he added.
