THE Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Inc. (DCCCII) is calling for the faster implementation of the Ease of Doing Business (EODB) Law as it will be easier to invite more investors to business in the city.
DCCCII president Art Milan said while working on the promotion of the city, they have been using the EOBD to entice more investors.
“Hopefully this will encourage more investors to come into the city [because] the law is supposed to make the processes of business easier like the application of permit for example,” Milan said.
“Although we still expect that there will still be gaps on its implementation because the plan is to have a central computer system that links national and local government agencies to avoid double submission of requirements and make it convenient for business people and entrepreneurs,” he added.
Republic Act 11032, also known as the EODB Law, was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte last year aiming to reduce processing time of transactions, simplify steps for securing documentation requirements, Interconnectivity Infrastructure Development, and creation of of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), among others.
DCCCII trustee Maria Lourdes G. Monteverde pointed out knowing when the law will be implemented will allow them to better work with the local government.
“For the Ease of Doing Business, how soon can they start with the ground works? Hindi lang certifications, permit and everything. This entails time but how soon can we have the turnaround for investments. Those are the factors that we want to work on with the local government units (LGUs),” Monteverde said.
She added that while peace and order has already been enticing investors, the city may be able to attract more with the full implementation of the EOBD Law.
