AUTHORITIES arrested on Monday, May 27, a stuntman charged with syndicated illegal recruitment and illegal possession of firearms.

Ryan Cabanas, 38, a stuntman of ABS-CBN, was arrested at 9:35 a.m. during the implementation of a search warrant inside his residence in Pag-ibig Homes, San Doval Avenue, San Andres in Cainta, Rizal.

Lieutenant Colonel Domingo Soriano, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, said they applied for a search warrant against Cabanas after receiving a report from a concerned citizen that Cabanas was keeping assorted firearms.

Recovered during the operation were one unit of .22 caliber with a rifle with scope, one sniper rifle with scope, one 9mm Beretta pistol, one unit of RONIN kit, two units of magazine for .45 calibers, four units of the magazine for 9mm, two magazine for .2 calibers, 234 live ammunition, one firearm silencer, one bulletproof vest with NBI marking and one Kevlar.

Items marked with National Bureau of Investigation were also found during the raid. Cabanas claimed he is a volunteer at the NBI, but the latter denied this.

Cabanas will be charged with violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunitions Regulation Law, and RA 9516, or Illegal Possession of Explosives.

Soriano said Cabanas also has a standing arrest warrant issued by Makati City Regional Trial Court over charges of Syndicated Illegal Recruitment in violation of Section 6 of Republic Act 8042 or “Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995.”

Soriano said they were coordinating with the Firearms and Explosives Office for the verification of seized firearms.
