Batch ‘04-‘05 leads Division 2

BATCH 2004-2005 remained at the top of Division 2, while Batch ‘98 surged to the peak of Division 1 in the Don Bosco Cup 2019 Alumni Basketball Tournament on May 26 at the Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) Gym.

Former pro Jerick Canada yet again steered Batch 2004-2005 to victory with an 88-83 win over Batch 2008-2009.

Canada, who once played for Blackwater Elite in the PBA, was scorching hot with 35 points. He pulled down 12 rebounds, dished out 12 assists and had four steals.

Ivan Perez helped out with 16 points and six boards, Joirene Salcedo added 14 and Fritcy Cabatino chipped in 12.

Marion Bollozos had a game-high 36 points with 17 rebounds and four blocks in a losing effort for Batch 2008-2009.

Batch 2004-2005 is still No. 1 in Division 2 with 6-1 slate.

Meanwhile, Batch ‘99 overtook Batch ‘98 for the No. 1 spot in the Division 1 with a 53-48 win over previous division leader Batch ‘98.

Haresh Vergara had a huge game with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Warren Santos added 13 points, nine rebounds and four steals for Batch ‘99.

Vito Holasca led Batch ‘98 with 18 points, 16 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Gandi Mahinay also logged a double-double with 10 points, 11 boards and three steals.

Batch ‘99 is 6-1, while Batch ‘98 suffered its first defeat of the tournament and dropped to 5-1 card.

In the other Division 1 games, Batch 2000 crushed Batch 2001, 76-56. Former University of Cebu (UC) standout Kern Sesante led Batch 2000 with 25 points, three rebounds and four steals.

Batch ‘94 demolished InGORious Batches, 80-61. Ian Brigoli put up 18 markers, four boards and five steals. Giovanni Canceko poured in 28 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dishes out four dimes to lead Batch ‘97 to a 73-52 win over Batch ‘95.

Batch ‘96 annihilated Batch 2002-2003, 94-45. Steve Nacua tallied 26 points, 12 boards and three steals.

In other Division 2 games, Batch 2014 beat Batch 2017, 57-41. Shann Tan had 22 points, six rebounds and two steals. Christian Rey Belloc exploded for 26 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Batch 2011 to a 66-49 rout of Batch 2007.

Batch 2006 squeaked past Batch 2018, 66-64, after a strong performance by Jose Acha, who had 26 points and five boards.

Batch 2015 also walked away with a close 77-76 victory over Batch 2018. Angelo del Campo had 35 points, eight rebounds and a block. (EKA)
