PRO-Central Luzon observes 121st National Flag Day

THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon Tuesday, May 28, joined the nation in the observance of the 121st National Flag Day held at the Camp Olivas in the City of San Fernando city.

PRO-Central Luzon director Brigadier General Joel Coronel led policemen comprised of command group, staff and all uniformed and non-uniformed personnel in a simple flag raising ceremony aimed at paying respect to the national flag.

In his speech, Coronel described the Philippine Flag as “a reminder of Filipino unity in the great cause of liberty and justice for all,” especially when it is raised up in the air.

“Whenever our flag is raised, we are reminded of our unity in the great cause of liberty and justice for all,” Coronel said.

He urged policemen to raise or display the flags on the police stations and even on their respective houses starting yesterday until the celebration of Philippine Independence Day on June 12.

“Sa pagitan nitong araw hanggang sa Araw ng ating Kalayaan sa Hunyo 12 ay ating iwawagayway ang ating watawat at tayo, bilang mga naatasang mangalaga at protektahan ang ating kalayaan, ay patuloy na gagampanan ang tungkuling ito sa pamamagitan ng tapat na pagseserbisyo at paglilingkod ng buong puso,” Coronel said.

The National Flag Day commemorates the day when the Philippine flag was first raised after the victory in the Battle of Alapan in 1898, wherein Filipino revolutionaries led by General Emilio Aguinaldo defeated Spanish troops to recapture the province of Cavite. It was further extended with Executive Order 173, signed by former President Fidel Ramos, which set the observance from May 28 to June 12. (With Ric Sapnu)
