THEY first underestimated their skills and capabilities to make things happen but when they entered Elysia Wellness Spa, they realized one thing -- anything is possible when you set your goals and push yourself to a reasonable limit.

Reaching the heights they thought they couldn’t is not an easy play at first but these five mother–employees’ (Momployees) of Elysia Wellness Spa have made it and they’re ready to inspire others to do the same.

In this feature, we talked straight to five Momployees of Elysia Wellness Spa and got a glimpse of their sacrifices and challenges while pursuing self-development as a mother and employee.

Mechiel Sagoni, 25

This mother of a four-year-old child entered Elysia Wellness Spa in June 2017. She was naïve in this industry when she started but two years later she has learned so much and Elysia Wellness Spa has become a major part of this improvement.

“I developed my skills here. And I even learned more things when I enrolled at Department of Health’s Licensure for Massage Therapy. Now, I know the do’s and don’ts in massage wellness,” Sagoni said in vernacular.

But juggling work and school is a challenging task but this did not stop her as she saw the importance of education in uplifting her current situation.

“I really pushed it as I wanted to get a certification. Above all, I wanted to challenge myself since I only finished secondary education, and I never expected that I can still do it,” she emphasized.

Sagoni was also thankful that she was employed in Elysia Wellness Spa as it gave her opportunities to grow financially, professionally, and personally.

Rosa “Eri” Escoba, 42

Among the few long-time workers of Elysia Wellness Spa, Escoba is now one of the trainers of the new employees and doing this has impacted her positively as a person. She joined the company in 2013.

“I am very honored and fulfilled to have helped some of my co-therapists through our trainings. Our paramount concern is the wellness and care of our clients,” she said.

Looking back, she never thought that she has reached whatever position in her life she has right now but she is certain that thhe continued education and training had played a vital role in performing her duty both as a senior therapist and a trainer.

“I am looking forward for more years in this company, I’ll serve for as long as I can,” Escoba shared.

Jennifer Paquibot, 35

She started as a receptionist, leveled up to a supervisor and then promoted as an operations manager.

“When I started, I was not really well-versed with the industry but I was eager to learn more and I am very privileged to have been working with a very supportive management,” she said.

Paquibot has earned her NC II on Massage Therapy from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) and a license from DOH in Massage Therapy. But her learning continues as she is currently taking up an online course in marketing management.

“I find ways to learn more, I wanted to know more, learning should not stop and with acquiring all these I am more confident because I know what I’m doing,” she said.

Acknowledging Elysia Wellness Spa in her career growth, Paquibot is also happy in serving a company that is now growing with more branches. Elysia has now eight branches in the city.

Ana Liza Masecampo, 44

This momployee who joined the company last year has proven her skills in massage therapy as more and more clients keep on coming back to the spa and requesting for her service.

But she didn’t achieve this by just doing nothing, she challenged herself to pursue a course in developing her skills like the DOH licensure course, despite her age.

“With my age, I thought I can’t achieve and do things like this. We all have fears. I once feared that I cannot do the things I am doing now but I pushed myself knowing this is for my betterment,” she said.

She also underscored that the trainings she had has helped her trust more herself to do the tasks expected of her.

Iris Mantes, 43

Elysia Wellness Spa gave this momployee a second chance. Mantes joined in 2015 and left in 2016. She was hired back in 2018, and this time, she is not wasting the chance she had and is focused to improve herself and contribute positively to the company that accepted her.

“When I left Elysia in 2016, everything is not settled, but I am so blessed because they reopened the doors for me. I am just a high school graduate, a mother of three, and given my age, companies are less likely to hire me but Elysia gave me a chance and I am determined to do better,” she shared.

She narrated that before she was hesitant to handle clients but when she had her trainings and course from DOH she is now confident and is ready to take care of customers.

“Aside from that, I can also give my sons the right massage wellness they need whenever they feel not so good. Working at Elysida has also given me stable financial capacity,” she said.

Mantes said that with the opportunity the company has offered them, she is staying and will perform the best way she can to improve herself, to be a better mother, and to be part of the company’s growth.
