Search for police director's replacement going on

THE Cagayan de Oro City Council has asked the Police Regional Office (PRO) Northern Mindanao for a shortlist of qualified police directors to replace Police Colonel Nelson Aganon, who is still in a coma after an accident on May 22.

Councilor Romeo Calizo, in a special report, said he was informed that Aganon is still in an unconscious state and is put in an induced coma.

He said it is expected that Aganon might remain unconscious for the next two weeks.

"Even if he will recover, we expect that more appropriate medication should be given to him, therefore, we expect he can hardly go back to his post as city director," said Calizo, the chairman of the committee on police, fire, and public safety.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Renante Reyes, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office's (Cocpo) deputy director for administration, temporarily served as officer-in-charge (OIC) while a full-fledged city director is yet to be designated.

But Calizo said an OIC's function is limited and cannot make critical decisions especially in operational matters.

"The PRO 10 (Northern Mindanao) should provide us the soonest possible a shortlist of the qualified PNP officers who could take over the position of Colonel Aganon," Calizo said.

"Colonel Aganon has been doing well, his command is instrumental in reducing our crime by 50 percent, but we cannot force him to go back immediately, he still needs to recover. So again, there are a lot of issues and concerns of our city, we need a city director now," he added.

Aganon remains in the intensive care unit after sustaining severe head trauma after the motorcycle he was riding took a nosedive while performing a motorcycle jump practice.
