Suspected killer of elderly couple falls

POLICE arrested on Tuesday evening, May 28, the suspect in the killing of an elderly couple in Novaliches, Quezon City.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Major General Guillermo Eleazar identified the arrested suspect as Carl Joseph Alarin Bañanola, 38, a resident of Barangay San Agustin, Novaliches.

He said the suspect was arrested in a follow up operation around 7:00 p.m. on May 28 along 4th Avenue, Doña Rita, Caloocan City.

He said Bañanola was still under the influence of illegal drugs during his arrest.

Couple Nicolas and Leonora Austria, 86 and 87 years old, respectively, were found dead inside their house at about 2 p.m. of May 26.

Their housemaid, Editha Fernandez, 63, was found lying inside the dirty kitchen with a fracture on the head and bruises on her body. She is still undergoing treatment at the Capitol Medical Center.

Fernandez identified the suspect, who delivers eggs to their household. She said the suspect had hit her back with a metal pipe.

Eleazar said Bañanola admitted to the crime and said his motive was to rob the victims.

Bañanola took P38,000 after killing the victims. Authorities recovered from him the remaining P16,000. (SunStar Philippines)
