ALL SM Supermalls across the country held a special raising flag ceremony in the observance of the National Flag Day on May 28, 2019.

The occasion commemorates the first unfurling of the Philippine Flag on May 28, 1898 in Alapan, Kawit, Cavite. SM malls joined this nationwide event to be one with the public sector in promoting awareness of the country’s foremost symbol of independence.

Around SM City Bacolod are colors of the Flag installed in major areas to celebrate Flag Day towards the Philippine Independence Day and will remain on display until the end of June.

Joining the mall’s officials and the SM Security Force for the flag raising ceremony was the Bureau of Fire – Bacolod headed by Superintendent Pamela Rojane Candido, and the Highway Patrol Group Bacolod.

“This initiative to stop and salute the flag is a fitting tribute to the symbol of our freedom and identity,” said Nep Grandea, SM marketing manager. “We have our mall decorated in our national colors and our tenants have the flag on display in their stores. We hope these symbols reach out to all our mallgoers and remind them of love for their country,” he added.

With the support of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, the Salute to a Clean Flag Movement advocates for renewed love and respect of our Philippine Flag through education and its visibility key areas. Following the National Flag Day, SM Supermalls gears up next for the celebration of the Philippine Independence Day this June 12.
