THE Iloilo City Business Permits and Licensing Division (BPLD) has encouraged the public to put up businesses now that Iloilo City is positioned as a primary meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (Mice) destination in the country.

“Because Iloilo City flourishes economically, this is an opportune time to engage in more businesses especially that the city has big potentials,” BPLD head Norman Tabud said.

“Investors see Iloilo City as an ideal place to hold an event, that is why they put up businesses that support the same. Through the events held here, it also promotes micro small and medium enterprises of local products,” Tabud added.

He said tourism-related businesses are growing in the metropolis, particularly accommodation, food, and wholesale and retail.

Tabud said putting up a business has become easier through City Hall’s streamlined steps.

Business registration steps include assessment of gross receipts by City Treasurer’s Office and authentication of documents by BPLD, claiming of Tax Order of Payment at Examination and Inspection Division, and payment and claiming of business permit.

Tabud said they target some 2,000 new businesses this year on top of the 15,558 registered businesses in 2018.

As of May 29, BPLD issued 14,770 business permits. This number is higher compared to the 13,880 permits issued during the same period last year. (PR)
