THE Pyestang Fernandino Executive Committee, together with the City of San Fernando Tourism Office, named the newest Mutya at Lakan Ning San Fernando winners during the coronation night held at the Heroes Hall Wednesday night, May 29.

Jaime Kjel Velasco and Rica Gabriene David bested 19 other candidates with their stunning beauty, wit, body built and their bold advocacies, which is among the highlights of this year's competition.

And more than the honor and bragging rights, Velasco and David are keen on using their titles to push for their chosen advocacies that are aimed at uplifting the lives of their fellow Fernandinos, especially youth.

Velasco, who hails from Barangay San Nicolas, City of San Fernando, is vocal about his advocacy to educate fellow youth on business entrepreneurship, particularly how to start and sustain a business at a young age.

"We are hoping to maximize this opportunity by educating our fellow youth about business entrepreneurship, as well as provide support for those who have already started, regardless if it is big or small," he said.

David, who is representing the Federation of Homeowners Association-Sta. Teresita, is advocating for disaster preparedness among Fernandino youth to ensure everyone's safety during times of calamities.

"During times of calamities, it is the youth that are most affected and are among the weak sector yet the most active, so we must educate and equip them so that we can maximize their strength," she said.

Aside from the title, Velasco also bagged special awards, which include Best in Swimwear, Best in Formal Wear and Best in Formal Wear Designer.

David, for her part, also won Miss Congeniality, Best in Filipiniana, Darling of the Press, Mutya Ning Kalikasan, Mutya Ning Kalusugan, and Best in Talent.
