THE Scoliosis Philippines Support Group Inc.-Cebu Chapter will hold a fun run dubbed as Run to Fight Scoliosis on June 16 at the Cebu Business Park.

The running event is organized as a fund raising event for 13-year-old Trixia Leongas, who will undergo surgery to correct her scoliosis.

Leongas of Banhigan, Dalaguete, Cebu was diagnosed with very severe thoracolumbar dextroscoliosis with Nast and Moe Vertebral Rotation of the Apex Vertebra.

Scoliosis is a progressive non-communicable disorder characterized by the lateral curvature of the spine, which can be corrected to prevent serious and even fatal complications.

Scoliosis Philippines Support Group, Inc.- Cebu Chapter head Gwendale Ave said on Thursday’s press conference that the group’s advocacy is to spread scoliosis awareness and help people battle the disorder.

“Right now, people are more aware of scoliosis. We have 36 national chapters and chapters in Hongkong and Dubai,” she said.

The categories for the run are the open 12-kilometer, 6K and 3K. The 1K category will be exclusive for persons with scoliosis.

The 12K participants will each get a finisher’s medal. The top three in the men’s and women’s 12K, 6K and 3K races will receive prizes.

The run is conducted in line with Scoliosis Awareness Month in June. There will be a free scoliosis screening as well during the event. (RSC)
