Warriors favored to win Game 1

DABAWENYOS picked defending champion Golden State Warriors to win Game 1 of their best-of-seven NBA Finals series that begins today at the Oracle Arena, Oakland, California.

Philippine Sports Institute (PSI) deputy director Marlon Malbog said, "Warriors mudaug kay walay katimbang si (LeBron) James. Basig pareha lang ni last year ang resulta Warriors in five games (Warriors will win since LeBron James has no support. This might even end up to five games with the Warriors)."

PBA Magnolia Hotshots player Peter June Simon, for his part, said that the Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry-led Warriors will win not just Game 1 but the series.

"Solid ang ilang system, teamwork og manpower (Warriors have a solid system, teamwork and manpower)," Simon said in a Facebook chat with Sun.Star Davao Thursday, May 31.

Mark Samante, Ateneo de Davao University director for community engagement and advocacy council, said the Warriors have the "firepower" that the Cleveland Cavaliers don't have.

Ateneo Blue Knights coach Pochollo Elegino, meanwhile, said that he would want the Cavaliers to win being the underdogs but the Warriors have what all it take to claim the series.

Former Sun.Star Davao editor Ruji Peter Abat, now with the Presidential Photographers Division, said the Warriors have more options while the Cavs will only rely on James' playmaking.

"The Warriors have solid firepower from their starters especially if Curry, Durant and Thompson get their rhythms together," Abat added.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William "Butch" Ramirez, however, said: "Cleveland because of LeBron. I know young people go to the exciting Golden State. I usually go to the underdog."

Meanwhile, Presidential Management Staff assistant secretary Joseph Encabo said, "Cavs, mas uhaw sila sa championship and determined (they are more hungry for a title)."
