Davao police to secure 1 million students

AUTHORITIES in Davao Region are gearing to provide security to over a million students in both public and private schools in various grade levels for a smooth and orderly simultaneous opening of classes on Monday, June 3.

Police Regional Office (PRO) Davao Director Marcelo Morales said they will be activating Oplan Balik Eskwela (OBE).

"Police personnel will be deployed sa iba't-bang schools dito sa region, public and private, and we have a strong coordination with the DepEd (Department of Education) to our Police Community Officer kung ano yong mga security concerns nila sa kani-kanilang mga schools para ma-address ng PNP (Philippine National Police)," Morales said.

The DepEd earlier bared that for the opening of the new school year (SY) 2019-2020, it is projecting 1,429,719 enrollees in both public and private elementary and secondary schools across the region.

Aside from conducting security, DepEd also plans to conduct information dissemination for students on possible incidents in schools and safety tips on how to prevent themselves from being a victim.

"We will conduct inspection and we will provide mga leaflets and fliers on how not to be a victim ng mga iba't-ibang mga incidents sa schools like bullying, yong mga riot, theft cases and even yong sa mga snatchers," Morales said.

He also said that in the succeeding days, they will hold seminars among students about Republic 7610 or The Special Protection of Children Against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, and Anti-Hazing law.
