REYNALDO Parojinog Jr., son of slain Ozamiz City mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr., was found guilty of illegal possession of illegal drugs and sentenced to life imprisonment.

He was also ordered to pay a fine of P500,000, based on the resolution issued on May 31 by Judge Nadine Jessica Fama of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 79.

Parojinog, his sister former Ozamiz City vice mayor Nova Princess Parojinog and several others were arrested following the simultaneous raids conducted by the police in several family-owned properties on July 30, 2017.

Police had secured six search warrants from the court against the Parojinog clan members.

Killed during the said operation were Parojinog Sr., his wife Susan and 14 others. The mayor's brother, Misamis Occidental Board Member Octavio Parojinog Jr., was also killed during the raid.

The Department of Justice found probable cause to charge the Parojinog siblings with illegal possession of firearms and illegal drugs in August 2017.

They earlier claimed that the illegal drugs and unlicensed firearms found in their possession were planted by the authorities.

Another brother of the mayor, Ozamiz City Councilor Ricardo "Ardot" Parojinog, was arrested in Taiwan in May 2018 and repatriated to Manila on July 27, 2018.

The Parojinogs were linked to the notorious Kuratong Baleleng robbery gang. (SunStar Philippines)
