REMEMBER the time singer-host of It’s Showtime Billy Crawford was bashed online because of his remark to one Tawag ng Tanghalan contestant’s Bisaya accent and diction?

That contestant was Lorilae Franzani, a Samal-born and Davao City-raised kontesera whose dreams and passion of becoming a great singer has already brought her to places.

Lorilae was born to a family who loves karaoke sessions during family time and special occasions. Her mother could also sing very well and her uncle is a good guitarist. The love and the ears for music really run in the family.

As young as five, Lorilae was already being trained to be a good singer. Because she was living near the sea, she shared that she had also experienced singing while dipped in the sea just how celebrity Regine Velasquez was reported to do it too when she was younger.

By the time she was eight, Lorilae already started joining singing contests up until she became an adult. Singing and joining singing contests is a big part of her life. It had made her stronger and unleashed out the better version of herself.

In 2013, she left Davao to work as a professional singer in Korea. However, five years after that, she came back to the Philippines and decided to join the national singing competition on television – the Tawag ng Tanghalan on It’s Showtime. It was her greatest dream to be seen singing on national television.

One of the judges, K Brosas, noted how her voice has a distinct husky and rockstar-like sound to it which makes it unique. On the other hand, Billy Crawford called out her need to improve her diction. The singer-host said this might be because Lorilae is a Bisaya. This remark earned negative comments for the actor and support for Lorilae.

“When Billy [Crawford] said that it was actually okay for me because they are the judges and they actually have their own opinions about my singing,” she said.

She said her exposure and her experience in Tawag ng Tanghalan opened door for improvements for her. He met Ato Arman, one of her fellow contestants, who promised that he will compose a song which Lorilae can sing.

With the support of her fiancé Querino Franzani who stands as her managing director, Lorilae was invited to more guestings and other singing events. Her singing career is finally being taken noticed of.

This is especially so when Arman finally met them several months after to tell them that he has finally written a song for Lorilae. “Ito ang Araw” is a song written to celebrate love and the beauty of a relationship. It was only March of this year that they finally launched the song as Lorilae’s first single. The song is now available to be streamed on Youtube and Spotify.

“This is actually a song about marriage. And we are hoping to have this song sung during our marriage soon,” the 30-year-old singer shared happily.

The song is indeed perfect for weddings as it chorus goes, “Ito ang araw na haharap sa altar, mangangakong magsasama’t mamahalin ka habang-buhay. Ganon ka din naman sa akin. Ako’y iyong iibigin at di na mawawalay kailan man sa piling mo.”
