MORE than 8,000 unclaimed public utility vehicle identification cards (PUV IDs) are still unclaimed at the Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), according to CTTMO chief Dionisio Abude.

His office intensified the campaign against drivers using fake PUV IDs.

"Probably kining mga wala mikuha sa ilang ID kay mao tong wala'y prangkisa o certification gikan sa PUV operators (Those who were not able to claim their IDs probably do not have franchisee documents or do not have any certification from PUV operators)," he said on Thursday, May 30, 2019, during the iSpeak media forum at the City Hall of Davao.

Abude said the office already issued a total of 22,000 IDs to drivers, both jeepney and tricycle drivers, who attended CTTMO's drivers education program.

He said the training's purpose was to educate and discipline drivers in the city. The training includes traffic signalization and road safety education.

Meanwhile, he said CTTMO recently flagged down two taxi drivers last Wednesday, May 29, after presenting a fake ID during an operation at Sasa.

Abude said apprehended drivers underwent inquest proceedings and will be charged for "falsification of public document".

Recently, the traffic agency was given 30 smartphones to be used in the operation.

Abude said these phones will be able to detect the authenticity of the driver's ID by scanning its QR code.

Meanwhile, he said unupdated IDs confiscated by CTTMO must be claimed by the drivers in their office.

"Paadtuon namo ang driver sa amo opisina aron ma-issuehan ug makambyuan og ID nga naa naay barcode," Abude said.
