2 women die as car collides with bus

TWO women died after their car figured in a head-on collision with a bus along Quimpo Boulevard, Davao City Friday dawn, May 31, 2019.

Melody Ann Sotelo Ybañez, 27, was driving a Mazda sedan with Janilou Faye Rosales, 21, as her passenger when they collided with a Yutong bus driven by Ricky Aban Deloso, 42.

Both died on the spot and the car was destroyed, according to a report provided by Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Director Alexander Tagum.

The report said the accident occurred at about 4:35 a.m. in front of Shell Gas Station.

Police said Ybañez held only a student driver's license, which expired last September 27, 2018.

Two female bus passengers, Felipa T. Sarcauga and Jessica Badayos, sustained minor injuries and were brought to the SPMC.

The dash cam footage shows that the bus was traveling within the speed limit from McArthur Highway heading towards Eco West Drive.

The car, which was traveling from Eco West Drive towards McArthur Highway, suddenly appeared in front of the bus and hit its bumper.

The sedan was dragged approximately 22 meters away from the probable point of impact.

The driver of the bus was temporarily held for further investigation. The bus is owned by the Davao Metro Shuttle Corporation. (JCR)
