Schools in Cordillera up for inspection

OFFICE of Civil Defense (OCD) Cordillera Director Albert Mogul said an inspection of schools in high-risk areas is forthcoming with the anticipated opening of classes.

Mogul said schools are mainly the lookout of the education department, but added that an ocular on its safety will be done by OCD in the coming days to be able to assess if they are safe to be utilized by school children.

Mogul said a risk assessment will be done and recommendations will be released.

He said the inspections will be done all over the region to augment the separate inspection by school authorities.

In Itogon last week, a schools training was conducted by the Department of Education for schools located in risk areas in preparation of the onslaught of rainy season.

Schools were training was held include Ucab Elementary School in Barangay Ucab, Ampucao Elementary and High School, Loacan, and Goldfield.

Children were also trained on disaster resilience and how to deal with flood, earthquake and landslides in the hope to prepare them to properly respond to calamities.

The OCD also participated in the Cordillera Business forum on MSME Development and Disaster Resilience by the Department of Trade and Industry which aims to make businesses disaster resilient in the region.

Mogul has advocated for a disaster risk management system to deal with disasters and its effects.
