DENR hosts environmental education lecture in CSF

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO--The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) recently conducted an environmental education lecture on ecological solid waste management during the opening of Brigada Eskwela at the Del Rosario Elementary School.

The event was aimed to strengthen the zero-waste efforts of schools at the start of the school year and in support of the Manila Bay cleanup and rehabilitation.

The DENR has been providing such lectures to provide knowledge to stakeholders like local government units, academe, private sector and the communities on how to approach the gargantuan tasks of rehabilitating the Bay ecosystem in the coming years.

The DENR lecture was manned by focal persons who shed light on zero-waste efforts that could be implemented in schools and homes.

The event was actively participated in by some 60 students, teachers and parents.

The event was part of the inter-agency effort in support of the Department of Education’s (DepEd’s) Brigada Eskwela campaign.

Now on its 16th year, the Brigada Eskwela, also known as the National Schools Maintenance Week is not only about cleaning and preparing the school for the new school year but also a show of unity between parents, students and teachers.

Brigada Eskwela gathers together education stakeholders “to participate and contribute their time, efforts, and resources to the school maintenance effort in ensuring that all public school facilities are ready for the school opening.”

In the Brigada Eskwela program, a school taps its faculty and staff, parents, neighboring barangays, government offices, private companies and individuals in cleaning and sprucing up classrooms several days before classes start.

Each year, the DepEd honors top performers in the Brigada Eskwela program.
