Search on for top Filipino engineers

ENGINEERS in the country who have contributed to communities with projects in the field of water, sanitation, environment, and sustainability will be awarded for their works in the community.

In the weekly Talakayan sa Environment Code forum of the Baguio Regreening Movement (BRM), Cherry Hernadez, social development program manager of Manila Water Foundation (MWF), said the search for outstanding Filipino engineers in the Baguio, Cordillera and the country is to give recognition for the social good these engineers have given.

“This 2019 MWF Prize for Engineering Excellence serves as an avenue to recognize engineers whose innovations contributed to the development of the Filipino people. We want to cultivate a relationship with the awardees and look for opportunities to collaborate to further the development of their inventions of projects,” Hernadez explained.

MWF Prize for Engineering Excellence is a biennial nationwide search for engineers who manifest excellent engineering and scientific competence, inspiring passion to make a difference, and unwavering commitment to the development of marginalized communities and sectors.

The 2019 MWF Prize for Engineering Excellence is a collaboration between the Manila Water Foundation (MWF), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Philippine Technological Council or PTC.

“We would want the engineering and scientific competence of our Filipino engineers to link up with communities needing their expertise like for the city of Baguio, we would like these engineers to help in the areas of water, sanitation, environment and sustainability,” the MWF Program Manager stated.

Now on its third run, it is the first and only recognizing body in the Philippines that honors Filipino engineers whose innovations helped solve development problems in the communities, and its commitment to the development of marginalized communities and sectors.

BRM chairman Erdolfo Balajadia acknowledge the award winning body as a big support to help in looking for possible solutions to the present environmental problems being faced by the city.

“We see great importance in collaboration and even linking the works of Filipino engineers which would serve well the communities in far flung areas of the country like here in the Cordillera. And we hope that their expertise in the field of water, sanitation, environment, and sustainability would be of great help to the communities,” Hernadez added.
