Mayor backs random drug test in local establishments

MAYOR Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has expressed her support to the recommendation of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) regional office for the enactment of an ordinance mandating random drug testing in all establishments in Zamboanga City.

Salazar, who chairs the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Cadac), instructed Agent Jury Rocamora to submit the proposed ordinance to the city council for appropriate action.

This, after Rocamora recommended to Cadac that a legislative support is needed for the conduct of random drug testing, similar to the ordinance in Davao City.

The ordinance will require random drug testing in all establishments that employ 10 or more employees and establishing the same as a requirement in the acquisition and renewal of business permits.

Rocamora also recommended the establishment of an oversight committee on supply reduction, demand reduction and rehabilitation in the Cadac. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
