Custodio: Friends

Custodio: Friends

NO MAN is an island. Do you believe that? I do. Although there are days when one needs to be alone, the importance of having someone to reach out to just cannot be denied. I have my alone days, my “me” days but I am still mostly a social creature. I need to communicate and share my thoughts and feelings with someone.

Friends have always been a part of our lives. They are our partners in crime, our constant companions in all the crazy, funny and yes, the tearful parts of our lives. There are friends who have stuck it out with us through thick and thin and yes there are those whom we have lost along the way.

There was a time when losing a friend could only mean that he or she has gone to heaven but as we grow old, we realize that there are friends who are not really meant to stay with us, no matter what the reason may be.

It may be a difficult pill to swallow. I had a hard time swallowing that fact, too, when it happened to me. But that’s life, you get to keep some of them and then you lose some. Some partings can be bittersweet and that’s okay. Whether it’s a friend moving away or finding new friends that you just click with better, it is all part of growing as a person. At one point you will learn to understand it and you’ll be okay. What’s difficult to accept though, are the friendships that you lost due to dishonesty and deception. The pain that it causes is deep and very hurtful. These experiences cause a hole in one’s soul and the wounds it has caused might never heal completely. Still we can learn from it and move on.

Friendships are that valuable. Friends are a source of comfort, of life and of wisdom. They are the extra ears that help you distinguish noise from all the important things the universe has to say to you. They are the extra sets of eyes that help you see through the smokescreen and those rose-colored glasses that sometimes deny you from seeing the truth. They are the extra arms that hold up your world when you have lost all strength to keep it from falling apart. They give you the hands to hold when life knocks you out of balance and they hug you long enough and tight enough for you to realize that you are loved especially when you can’t seem to love yourself.

Friendships are treasures so consider yourself lucky that you have found a true one. They’re a gift from God we should never take for granted.

Happy Sunday Everyone! :)
