1 dead, 11 hurt in road mishaps

ONE person died while 11 were hurt in separate road accidents in Alcoy town and Cebu City Sunday, June 2, 2019.

A 37-year-old carpenter died in a hit and run incident in Barangay Guiwang, Alcoy, Cebu at around 4:35 a.m.

Randy Janginon, a resident of Barangay Atabay of the said town, died after he was hit by a still unidentified vehicle and driver along the National Highway of Barangay Guiwang.

He was reportedly drunk when the incident happened. A bottle of liquor was recovered beside the victim.

Alcoy acting Police Chief Police Lieutenant Henry Estoy, said a witness saw the victim sitting beside the road.

The responding police and the victim’s mother, Avelina, rushed him to a hospital in Dalaguete, Cebu, but was declared dead on arrival.

Authorities have yet to identify the suspect/s who will face charges for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.

In a separate incident, eleven passengers were hurt after the jeepney they were riding bumped into a gutter near a gasoline station on N. Bacalso Street in Cebu City.

According to Police Staff Seargent Nelson Solana, desk officer of Mambaling Police Station, initial investigation revealed that a motorcycle had overtaken the said jeepney manned by a certain Leonardo Lauron, 48, causing it to topple on its side.

“Based sa initial investigation, ang kining jeep ug motor nagsunod. Pag-overtake kuno sa motor, naalanganin ang jeepney ug na out of balance, maong nabangga sa gutter,” Solana said.

(Based on our initial investigation, the jeepney and the motorcycle were tailing each other. When the motorcycle had overtaken, the jeepney was in a precarious situation, lost its balance and hit the gutter.)

The passengers were rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center for medical attention.
