BOC to send back trash to Hong Kong on June 3

THE tons of imported waste shipped to the country via the Mindanao International Container Terminal (MICT) in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental will be returned to Hong Kong Monday, June 3, 2019.

MICT collector John Simon confirmed the re-exportation of the Hong Kong trash in a text message on Friday.

"The Bureau of Customs is pleased to announce that the re-exportation of the e-waste from Hong Kong will push through this coming Monday, June 3 at 9:00 a.m. at the MICT in Tagoloan," Simon said in a statement inviting the media to cover the repatriation ceremony.

The over 25 tons of waste materials misdeclared as "assorted electronic accessories docked at the MICT last February turned out to be mixed plastic and electronic trash.

MICT officials issued a warrant of seizure and detention last February 19 and March 7 for "misdeclaration" under the customs law.

Another shipment of waste from Australia and the bulk of a South Korean waste shipment are still at the MICT. (Alwen Saliring)
