Mayor inaugurates P14.8-M school building

ZAMBOANGA City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar welcomed Monday, June 3, the opening of classes in public schools with the inauguration of a P14.8 million school building in an east coast village here.

The beneficiary of the project, an eight-classroom building is the Magsaysay Elementary School in Lamisahan village, east of this city.

Salazar said the school building, which is complete with climate change resilient features, was undertaken by a private construction firm under the supervision of the City Engineer’s Office.

She noted that all public elementary and secondary schools in Zamboanga City opened Monday their classes for School Year 2019-2020 amid the lack of classrooms and teachers.

Earlier, City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Triambulo revealed that this city is in need of about 934 teachers, of which 280 teachers for kindergarten to Grade 6; 542 for Junior High Schools and 112 for Senior High Schools.

Early enrolment conducted January to February this year showed a total of 223,922 students were expected to troop to public schools Monday. (SunStar Philippines)
