AT TIMES at work, we all experience negativity. Some of us feel angry, disappointed, confused, and irritated. In these circumstances, how we decide to deal with these situations can make a difference in our lives. Choosing to be proactive rather than being reactive as a positive interruption to a negative situation can make our lives better. Here are some strategies to become proactive at work.

1. Be communicative. It is important that we take time to listen to others attentively and think about how we can respond to others’ needs. The greatest fault in communication is we don’t eagerly listen to understand, we always listen to prepare our intellectual replies. Sometimes, reaching out and taking someone’s hand is the start of a journey. At other times, it is letting another to take yours.

2. Be organized. It is essential to do the planning of things that needs to be accomplished every day. Part of it is honoring our commitments and meeting deadlines. At the end of the day, we need to evaluate if we have accomplished our goals and see if it needs recalibration to make it better.

3. Be participative. Participation would not only be speaking, giving opinions and suggestions during the meetings but volunteering in helping the organization’s vision and mission. Also, being open to contributing our expertise to help our colleagues can help improve their skills.

4. Be positive. Even with our full energy of accomplishing things, inevitably we can fail. Dealing with any adversities from a positive perspective can motivate anybody to look for the best in every situation.

5. Be adaptable. Change is the only constant in this world and the ability to adapt to this change is an example of proactiveness. It is essential that we need to analyze and understand the need for change. Our readiness to change would somehow allow us to embrace the needed change. However, it is critical to communicate change to everyone in the organization so that people will understand the potential benefits of the intended change.

So, let us celebrate our journey at work to becoming more proactive! Don’t wait for good things to happen to us, if we try to be more proactive, we can definitely make some good things happen. Let us begin to fill our workplace with peace and harmony, and fill our workplace with hope and productivity.
