NON-GOVERNMENT organizations (NGOs) in Davao City are encouraged to be part of the GCash for Good program to enable Dabawenyos to donate online through the GCash mobile money application.

The program was launched in the city Tuesday, June 4, at the Park Inn Hotel following Manila and Cebu. It currently involves 35 NGOs included in the initial batch after completing requirements from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and Globe Fintech Innovations Inc. (Mynt).

GCash vice president for corporate communications Reyner Villasenor said that GCash for Good is another big step to further develop the GCash app into a more socially relevant and sustainable platform that helps address issues in different levels of society.

“GCash users can use the GCash app to donate to various groups to create an impact to the society. This allows GCash to be a more inclusive and open platform that will help create better opportunities for millions of Filipinos,” Villasenor said.

“I am calling on all NGOs in Davao City and nearby cities and provinces to join us as we spread the power of good through GCash,” he added.

Villasenor said that GCash will not settle as a mobile payment provider only as they see the potential of technology to be used in effectively pushing more advocacies that will uplift the lives of the vulnerable sector of the society.

“In this world full of uncertainty, of hopelessness and of clamor for goodness, would you rather be a bystander or would you rather join us in this movement and encourage more people na may magagawa tayo?” he said.

Meanwhile, Villasenor said they do not discriminate any NGO that is interested to become partners of the program. But they are critical in terms of the process to make sure the legitimacy of an organization and make sure that the money donated cannot be abused.

In the app, each NGO will have specific QR code for scanning where GCash users may donate any amount anytime, anywhere and as fast as sending a text message.
