HOTELS in Bangkok are aplenty and each has its own unique charms. Depending on what my purpose is, whether work or leisure (which is always both with every visit) and where my appointments are, then the hotels in that area is where I focus my eagle eyes on.

It’s that time of the year again and I’m back in Bangkok. My considerations for choosing a place to stay are unchanging: first, the hotel should be next to a BTS Skytrain station. The transport system will zoom me to any point in the city, including the Airport Link, the most economical way to travel to and fro the airport. It beats any road transport in traffic-heavy Bangkok. Second, the proximity to the rest of my needs, like good restaurants, shopping and city attractions, which I can write about.

I had all of the above at Pathumwan Princess Hotel.

I’ve been meaning to stay at this hotel for the longest time because it offers all the requirements I look for in a Bangkok hotel. And on my recent trip to the city, it finally happened.

The hotel’s central location is one of its strengths. It easily reachable via the National Stadium BTS Skytrain Station, making whatever destination you have in mind easy and fast to reach. Its name is a give-away, and will give you an idea that it has direct access to MBK Shopping Centre, a shopaholic and bargain hunter’s paradise. Arts? Next door is the Bangkok Art Center, with an interior design similar to Guggenheim in New York City. Next to it is a hipster’s fashion hunting ground, Siam Discovery, which is linked to its equally exciting sister malls of Siam Center and Siam Paragon.

All the walking happens above ground. The establishments are connected via an overhead walkway. Set up as an art park, the short walk to these establishments is scenic.

The Jim Thompson House? It’s a short comfortable walk to this must-see attraction from the hotel.

Coming home from a long day of work or exploration of the city, Pathumwan Princess will provide the luxurious rest you deserve. All 455 guest rooms and suites offer a unique blend of modern convenience and traditional Thai style and hospitality. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, and the picture windows, which does not only allow abundance of natural light to stream in, also display a panoramic view of the city views, giving you a peek of visit-worthy spots.

My room was an Executive Suite. The 55-sqm room has a separate sleeping and living areas. It makes sense, you can work in one and be completely detached from it when it’s time to rest.

As to dining, the hotel is a gastronomic destination in itself. Whatever your craving, the hotel’s offerings can sate it. Kongju (a high-end Korean restaurant), Terrazza (Italian) and Tatsumi (Japanese) are among the restaurants in the hotel.

Moreover, Pathumwan Princess prides itself for its outstanding comfort and excellent service-- and they have have been recognized and awarded for it constantly over the years.

Pathumwan Princess Hotel is at 444 MBK Centre, Phayathai Rd, Wangmai, Pathumwan, Bangkok, 10330, Thailand. Visit their website at www.pprincess.com
