AN OFFICIAL of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Northern Mindanao on Wednesday, June 5, said a new city police director will likely be installed in Cagayan de Oro next week, following the passing of Colonel Nelson Aganon on Tuesday.

"The new Cagayan de Oro City police chief will most possibly be installed next week," Serenas said.

Serenas said the city's new top cop will be chosen from at least three qualified police officials in the shortlist. He said the shortlist could be as many as five.

The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) is saddened for the loss of one of the efficient police leaders in the city.

"Ang iyang kamatayon nakahatag ug kasubo kanamo apan wala kini makaapekto sa among daily activities to religiously perform our sworn duties to better serve the people," Cocpo acting spokesperson Major Rey Gaudencio Taboclaon said.

Aganon died due to cardio pulmonary arrest, secondary to brain herniation, secondary to acute intracerebral hemorrhage left frontal lobe with intraventricular extension, following a motorcycle training accident last May 22.

Taboclaon said Aganon's remains will be transferred from Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes to the Cocpo headquarters today before it will be brought to his hometown in Nueva Ecija on Friday for the interment.

Mayor Oscar Moreno, in a statement, has conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family.

"We pray that God will grant Col. Nelson's soul eternal rest and peace. we thank and honor him for his exemplary service as CDO's chief of police. He had done his duties very well and with pride and dignity, and we will all miss him," Moreno said.

Moreno said, while the city mourns the untimely passing of Aganon, it also needs a regular chief of police to replace him.

"Accordingly, I have indicated our intention of receiving a new chief of police in CDO soon. With this, I know the selection process begins," he added.

Moreno also ordered that the Philippine Flag be flown at half-mast in the headquarters, police stations, and in all offices of the city government until June 11 or upon interment of the remains of Aganon in Nueva Ecjia, whichever comes first.
