CEBU Port Authority General Manager Angelo “Angie” Verdan passed away at 1:08 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at the University of Cebu Medical Center due to heart failure. He was 76 years old.

His daughter, Lara Naomi, said Verdan was survived by her, her elder sister Laarni, and her (Lara Naomi) son Ravi Angelo, who was named after his grandfather.

She said that before Verdan’s death, his doctors were looking into doing an angioplasty. They were just waiting for his cardiologist’s go signal.

“We are still processing the suddenness of his death. He (Verdan) was weak but recovering just two hours before his heart gave in,” Lara Naomi said.

“He was a friend to everyone he met and a source of strength for all who were blessed to know him,” Lara Naomi added.

Verdan’s wake is at the Chapel C of the Cosmopolitan Funeral Parlor in Nivel Hills, Lahug, Cebu City and will be transferred to the nearby Imperial Chapel Thursday, June 6. The wake will be held until June 9.

Verdan was director for flight operations of Philippine Airlines (PAL) from 1966 to 1993 before he became the general manager of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) in 2002 to 2004.

He then transferred to the CPA as general manager in 2006, before he was appointed by then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as chairman of the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) in 2010.

Verdan was appointed again as CPA general manager by President Rodrigo Duterte in December 2016.

Verdan was an alumnos of the University of Sto. Tomas.

Patria Aurora “Dawnie” Roa said she had the pleasure and privilege of working with Verdan as a member of the MCIAA Board of Directors.

Verdan was MCIAA general manager when Roa, who was then the Department of Tourism 7 director, served as an MCIAA director. (EOB)
