BACOLOD City Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran has appealed to the parents for understanding for the delay of the distribution of the free school supplies in 2019.

Familiaran said Wednesday, June 5, 2019, that the distribution of the free school supplies will be delayed because of the election ban in May.

“We have a local ordinance which was approved in 2016 so we assured that we will distribute the free school supplies soon. Hopefully, they will understand us,” he said.

He said every year Mayor Evelio Leonardia led the distribution of free school supplies to all the elementary students in public schools.

The city government allotted P15 million for free school supplies and miscellaneous of public school students.

In 2018, the city distributed the schools supplies with bags to almost 65,000 students from Grade 1 to Grade 6, and this year, they will include the kinder pupils.

Councilor Renecito Novero, chairperson of the City Council committee on education, earlier said the free school supplies will not be delivered in the opening of school classes, but they are hoping to deliver it by July or August.

In 2016, the City Council approved the ordinance providing free educational materials to all students or public elementary schools in Bacolod. The ordinance was authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito.

Meanwhile, Familiaran also reminded the parents to always tell their children not to talk to stranger to avoid untoward incidents.

“We should ensure that our children are safe when going to school and going home. Just remind them not to accept candies, or a ride from strangers,” Familiaran said.
