Valley forms vegetable week committee

THROUGH Administrative Order No.016-2019, the La Trinidad Highland Vegetable Industry Week Steering Committee was formed to organize, coordinate, and spearhead the official programs, projects and activities during the Highland Vegetable week eyed every second week of July.

Mayor Romeo Salda signed the administrative order for the creation of the committee composed of the municipal agriculturist as the chairperson and the market supervisor as the vice chair.

Members comprised of the municipal council chair for tourism, public market and economic enterprise, agriculture, municipal planning and development council, La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post Booth Awardees, media representative, truckers representative, farmers representative, academic, organic agriculture sector and business sector representative.

The steering committee is tasked to organize, coordinate, and spearhead the official programs, projects and activities during the industry week upon approval of the Municipal Council.

The committee is also tasked to recommend to the mayor funding of the different programs, projects and activities for the Highland Vegetable Industry Week which will be included as part of the executive budget.

The group will also identify, promulgate other programs, projects and activities related to the observance of Highland Vegetable Industry Week.

Stared in the order, the committee is tasked to recommend to the Municipal Council for the legislation of other programs, projects and activities.

Ordinance no. 31-2018 declares the second week of July of Every year in observance of the Highland Vegetable Industry Week in the municipality to recognize the contribution and importance of the highland vegetable industry.

The establishment of La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post in July 13, 1984 paved local farmers in the capital town and neighboring towns to market their produce of highland vegetables.

The valley is home to two highland vegetable trading centers in Benguet province.
