BAGUIO City mayor-elect and retired Police General Benjamin Magalong called on business owners not to entertain any person who will use his name to gain something from them.

In a public advisory issued by the mayor-elect to members of the media, he warned business establishments, particularly restaurants and eateries, not to entertain or accept placement of orders for food and others supposedly under the name of the retired general.

Magalong issued the warning after three establishments were victimized by some people who introduced themselves as staff of the incoming mayor.

“I am saddened that such incidents are being done with the obvious intent to discredit me and bring me dishonor,” Magalong said. “As I continue preparing to assume office per our people’s mandate, I appeal for everyone to be more circumspect and do what is just and right in the way we conduct ourselves outside our home and workplace.”

Among those establishments victimized by the perpetrators in Baguio City were Health 101 along Magsaysay Avenue, Viscoz, and Country Steaks and Waffles who was also asked for a P8,500 cellphone load.

“Please help me ferret out these perpetrators by calling the attention of the business owner, manager, and reiterating this disclaimer in my behalf. May I repeat, I have not and will never allow the use of my humble name for dastardly acts such as these. Thank you, Dios ti agngina, salamat po!” the mayor-elect added.

Magalong also advised business and other establishments in the city to verify first from him or his staff on any request made by any persons using his name.

An investigation is now ongoing to identify the personalities behind the scam.
