Pangan: Ushering in Academic Year 2019-2020

AS IS normal in public schools, parent-teachers conferences are held at the start of schools' opening.

In Santos Ventura National High School, parents were invited to its 1st Parent-Teacher Conference on June 1, 2019. Leading the conference were instructors of the school: Kevin Gomez, Jr., Edmond Yumang, ICT adviser, Armand Vincent Sese, Rose Francisco and others.

Early comer parents, including me, were given biscuits, bottled water and softdrinks by Ms. Francisco and were made to sign in the attendance sheets.

At 9 a.m., parents of incoming Senior High School students -- Grades 11 and 12 -- were herded into a classroom designated as the Tech-Vic-Livelihood room. It is a new building to house various vocational courses of Santos Ventura National High School, in cooperation with Tesda, which will issue national certifications for qualifiers.

The agenda included introduction to the tracks from which the students can choose like ABM, STEM, HUMSS and ICT. My son, Reginald Don, who is adept at gadgets, is aiming to get an IT diploma.

Next to be discussed were the school's rules and policies on absences, tardiness and uniform.

Senior high school students are required to observe work immersions as a requirement for graduation. Housekeeping students are required to observe immersions at Royce hotel, a partner firm of Santos Ventura National High School.

The head of Santos Ventura National High School is Ms. Babylin Manuel, the principal. She once said she envisions SVNHS to be a center of quality education, manned by highly-qualified teachers and instructors.

The road leading to the school is now being paved and should be finished before the rains come. It should give students convenience as contrasted to the discomfort they've experienced for so long due to the dusty, unpaved road.

SM supermalls have been engaging the services of Aresun Trading and General Services, located at Bulacan Street, Mt. View Subdivision, Angeles City, for their janitorial and housekeeping chores.

Some observers suggest that other qualified service firms in Angeles Mabalacat and elsewhere should be engaged by SM Supermalls. As it is, Aresun has undue advantage over other qualified local firms and in fact, it reaches Cauayan City, Isabela where SM has opened a branch there.

Time to give others a chance to serve. And by the way, is Aresun not remiss in paying the statutory obligations for its employees like SSS, Philhealth and Pag-ibig premiums? Just asking.
