DFA, PRC urged to put up satellite offices in Kalibo

A LOCAL government official has urged the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) to put up their respective offices in Kalibo, Aklan.

Councilor Cynthia Dela Cruz, vice mayor-elect, said Friday, June 7, that she filed a resolution in the Municipal Council requesting the DFA and the PRC to put up offices in the town.

Recently, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) opened its own satellite office in Kalibo.

“Thousands of Aklanons would benefit if both the DFA and the PRC would put up [their] satellite office in Kalibo for the processing of both passports and professional documents. With the current technology, it is now much easier to do so compare to previous years,” she said.

At present, Aklan residents have to travel four hours to Iloilo City and vice versa just to secure such needed documents.

For several years, the Aklan Provincial Government has lobbied for the putting up of satellite offices of the NBI, DFA, and PRC in Kalibo.

With the opening of NBI's office, "it is high time to once again try to appeal to the PRC and the DFA to put up their office here," said Dela Cruz.

Aside from Aklan, residents from nearby towns of Capiz and northern Antique and Boracay Island may also benefit once the DFA and PRC put up offices in Kalibo. (SunStar Philippines)
