Father kills 5-year-old son for rice

A MAN is facing parricide charges after he allegedly mauled his five-year-old son to death on Monday, June 3, 2019, in Purok 7, Barangay Kimamon, Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte for rice.

Based on the police report of Sto. Tomas Municipal Police Station, about 10:45 p.m. on Monday they received information of a mauling incident involving a five-year-old child identified as alias JR, an incoming student.

The suspect was identified as Gilbert Antonio Momo, 32, married, laborer and a resident where the incident happened.

A patrol team led by Police Liutenant Muthawaslih Orine Nani, DCOP for operation, responded at the crime scene upon receiving information of the incident which resulted to the apprehension of the suspect.

Investigation revealed that about 6 p.m., the minor victim played with the uncooked rice and which he accidentally dropped. This irked his father, who has just arrived, that resulted to the mauling incident.

“The suspect slapped and punched the victim that caused his son to fall on the ground from the ladder and then kicked (the victim) until the child lost his consciousness,” the report read.

After the incident, the victim was brought to the Municipal Health Center in Barangay Tibal-og, Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, Dr. Keeny Praise Z Celeste.

Meanwhile, the suspect is now at the custody of Sto. Tomas Police for proper disposition, while the victim’s remains are now at their residence. (JCR)
