Mayor: ‘Time to buckle down to work’

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- “Election is over, it is now time to work and give our people the service they deserve.”

This was City of San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago’s statement during the 1st Local Development Council (LDC) Meeting for 2019 on Thursday, June 6, at the Heroes Hall participated by city officials and department heads, private sector representatives, civil society organizations, and 35 barangay captains of the capital city.

Santiago, together with lawyer Atlee Viray, officer-in-charge (OIC) City Administrator, and Chryzl Sicat, OIC of the City Planning and Development Coordinator’s Office, led the said activity.

Topics of the discussion were the status of the 2018 and 2019 aid to barangay projects and presentation of the 2020 Annual Investment Program.

In his opening remarks, Santiago reiterated the importance of “participative governance” wherein the active participation of every sector is a must in order to build a sustainable city.

“Ang pangongobyerno ngayon ay di katulad ng dati, dahil ngayon ay may mga pamantayan tayong sinusundan upang mas masunod yung direksyon na gusto natin. Ang paglago ng isang syudad ay nagsisimula sa mga barangay. Kung kaya’t napakahalaga na ang gobyerno ay nagkakaisa at pinakikinggan ang boses ng mamamayan,” said Santiago.

He added that in his third and last term, the local government will develop and implement projects focusing on the three core sectors such as economic development, social development, and environmental management.

“We see to it na sa bawat project ay nagre-reflect yung tatlong core sectors, dahil under ito sa local development. This is one of our ways to achieve a smart, livable, and sustainable city,” he said.
