Magalong leads tree planting

BAGUIO City Mayor–elect Benjamin Magalong leads 400 volunteers in a tree planting thanksgiving aiming to set the tone of his agenda once he assumes office next month.

“I welcome each tree-loving constituent taking part in a day-long tree-planting effort tomorrow, June 9th. You are doing a noble duty in thanksgiving for all that we have and will have to grow in Baguio by our concerted effort,” Magalong said.

Volunteers over the weekend planted trees at the Baguio Botanical Garden, Pine Trees of the World Park, South Drive/Forbes Park and Teachers Camp with 2,000 seedlings provided by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and City Environment and Parks Management Office.

“Let us grow our trees responsibly. As they have shielded us from rain or shine, let us protect them from needless harm. Only then can we have a better Baguio, every tree planted is an investment we can all place to secure our city from climate change challenges amid an environmental crisis we face,” Magalong added.

Volunteers were mostly from social media group, Movement for a Better Baguio, which started as a platform for sharing ideas, insights, suggestions and queries on the objectives, aspirations and visions of then candidate Magalong.

Movement for a Better Baguio coordinator- Monin Navarro said the tree planting activity was conceived as a project by supporters of Magalong in gratitude for his being voted into office by a majority of Baguio residents.
