Nalzaro: Is Alcover ‘extorting’ money from Mabatid?

Saksi

THE continued rantings and attacks of defeated Councilor Pastor Alcover Jr. on social media against Barug PDP-Laban partymate Niña Mabatid will amount to nothing. It’s a lost cause and will definitely reflect on the leadership of the party and it possibly will boomerang on him. He may be misunderstood for being an “extortionist” because from what I heard he demanded money from Mabatid and wanted to be refunded for his election expenses. During the campaign, Mabatid had been giving him money for her campaign activities. One proof is the P24,000 that Mabatid deposited in the account of Alcover with the Bank of the Philippines Islands (BPI) on Nov. 19 last year. Alcover is playing deaf on that deposit in his Facebook account.

Mabatid also gave Alcover P300,000 for her habal-habal (motorycle) drivers’ caravan in the mountain barangays, where she tapped Alcover’s assistance as the latter is very familiar with the mountain barangays. That amount was intended for the food of the participants. Niña instructed Alcover to butcher pigs. But during the event, Alcover’s group brought only pansit. One of the witnesses that Niña gave Alcover the amount is her mother, Manang Salud Ompoc Mabatid. Nang Salud, an avid listener for the last three decades, visited me at the station last week and told me everything she knew of Alcover’s intention in continuously attacking her daughter. Nang Salud expressed fear that Alcover might harm her daughter, knowing the former’s background. Alcover went underground and joined the New People’s Army (NPA), but he later turned anti-communist.

Well, we are in a democratic country and Alcover is entitled to air his grievances on social media. That’s what we call “freedom of expression.” But do you think many people will support his “cause” for an honest future elections when the issues he raised against Niña are too personal? Ang iya lang mga alipores ra maoy mo-abiba niya. Read the reactions of the netizens. He is just “sourgraping” because he cannot accept his loss. Had he won, he would not have complained against Mabatid?

Granted that he and other Barug stalwarts were victims of Mabatid’s junking, single voting, vote buying and that she was demanding campaign funds from them, is that a big deal as far as the public is concerned? It’s an internal matter that the party leadership should resolve. Way labot ang lungsod ana, Mr. Alcover. Keber ug unsay nahitabo ninyo panahon sa inyong kampaniya?

The only issue raised by Alcover against Niña that could possibly be entertained by the Comelec is the vote buying. Why doesn’t he just file a complaint then? All the others are nonsense issues and personal. Granting that Niña junked Alcover, so it was not only in Mabolo alone. It was a massive junking in all barangays in the north. Could Niña do it? I doubt. Had Niña demanded money from him and other candidates, including congressional candidate Richard Yap, maybe it was just a little favor intended to push their candidacies in Mabolo. Unsa may gusto ni Alcover? Sakay lang siya sa makinarya ni Niña nga libre? If they were junked by Niña in Mabolo, they should have concentrated their resources in other big barangays. They should have ignored Mabatid or reported the matter to their party leadership.

You know in politics, even if you are partymates, you are still competitors because of the limited seats available that all the candidates aspire for. The seats available are only eight and, overall, both parties had a total of 16 candidates. So, each candidate looked for and initiated other strategies so they would be known and exposed to the voters. Is that treachery? Alcover threatened to expose Niña in due time. Why wait for that time? You expose her now. And what will your expose be? About her past relationship? About her Pinoy Care? Hubu-i ug hukasi si Niña? Sige lang kang panghulga. Babaye pa nang imong kontra.

Barug stalwarts like Joel Garganera, Eric Espina and south and north congressional candidates Joy Pesquera and Richard Yap placed their political advertisements over at radio dySS and GMA 7 where they only promoted themselves. They did not include their partymates. Why is it that Alcover did not complain against Garganera et al. going solo and junking him? Nganong patuga-tuga ka man og dagan, Jun? Wala man diay kay funding? Gusto lang ka’g libre tanan.

Alcover ranked 13th and 14th in almost all of the barangays in the north. He did not even rank number one in Sambag 1 and Agsungot, which are known to be his stronghold. So if we total his votes, his ranking was between 10 and 13, as shown in the final results. Did Alcover also know that he, Garganera and Raymond Garcia were subjects of a “special operation” by the BOPK for them to lose? Garcia was able to counter that. That was why he landed in 8th place. Mr. Alcover, don’t blame anybody for your defeat. Why don’t you just keep quiet and accept your fate. Instead of ranting without a valid cause, why don’t you examine yourself. Reflect and reassess what went wrong? I will recommend for you a theme song, “Saan ako nagkamali?” Hilum na lang diha kay sa magsige kag putak-putak. Pagkatoytoy!
