SM Seaside City hosts ‘celebration of music’

THE Sistemang Pilipino Big Band Orchestra and Chorus celebrates music through the convergence of children who aspire to be the best in their fields. These children play the trombone, cello, violin and other string, brass and percussion instruments.

Sistemang Pilipino is a non-stock, non-profit organization dedicated to providing world-class music education and performance opportunities for Filipino children and youth, with a special focus on those from under-served communities. It is inspired by “El Sistema”—the pioneering movement for social justice through music—which began in Venezuela in 1975, and is now present in over 40 countries around the world.

Last May 31, Sistemang Pilipino had a culminating performance for their summer program at the Mountain Wing atrium of SM Seaside City Cebu, featuring an hour of music, including popular soundtracks of Hollywood films.

Communities involved in the orchestra came from different parts of Cebu, which included the Talamban National High School, Pardo and Sta. Ana Banawa. The event was graced by Sistemang Pilipino founder Lianne Sala, and the performance was conducted and directed by co-founder, Jiovanni Tabada. (PR)
