CTU to establish extension campus in mountain village

THE Cebu City Council has authorized Mayor Tomas Osmeña to enter into and sign a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the establishment of an extension campus of the Cebu Technological University (CTU) in Barangay Guba.

Cebu City North District Rep. Raul del Mar, who will be responsible for the funds that will be used for the project, is also party to the MOA.

“The Cebu City Government recognizes the necessity to establish a state college/university in one of the mountain barangays in the city, particularly in the first district, to ensure accessible quality education of the residents therein,” read a portion of the resolution sponsored by Councilor Joy Augustus Young.

“It is likewise (the) desire of the Office of Representative of the First Legislative District of Cebu City, represented by Cong. Raul del Mar, to establish a CTU extension campus in one of the mountain barangays in the city,” the resolution added.

Under the MOA, CTU will render technical assistance and knowledge for the completion of requirements imposed by the Commission on Higher Education and all other government agencies that are necessary for the establishment of an extension campus.

Del Mar’s office is also tasked to lobby for funding needed for the construction of the school building and facilities.

Del Mar’s office is also tasked to make sure that the extension campus will have an annual maintenance and other operating expenses to be included in the annual budget of CTU under the General Appropriations Act.

The City will donate the lot where the extension campus will be built. (RVC)
